Come and See: Franciscan Spirituality and Share with New App
The new St. Francis App was originally released in December of 2013 in Italian, but was just recently updated in English. Developed by the Italian company Matitegiovanotte in collaboration with the Friars Minor of Assisi, the St. Francis App (San Francesco App) is currently available for Android and iOS Apple devices ($1.21). All content comes from the Franciscan Sources and publications of the publishing house Portiuncula of Assisi: writings and inspirational thoughts and prayers as daily food for faith and hope, hundreds of sacred images of Francis, of the places where he lived, the miracles, the mystical moments of his life.
The St. Francis App has a number of inspiring features to help in the understanding of the life and spirituality of Saint Francis of Assisi & St. Clare:
- Thought of the Day: 365 days with St. Francis, through thoughts, prayers and writings taken from his writings or from the primitive testimonies of his life, that is, the set of works that are called the Franciscan Sources. A different thought every day that appear every day and that will increase the breviary in hand. A service rendered to the people and those who love Saint Francis Order of Friars Minor of Umbria.
- Share a Sign of Peace: Offering Franciscan Sources and images that represent the most significant moments through the treasures of Franciscan history, spirituality and poetry.
The app allows you to share phrases, images and testimonies of the Holy with close friends present on the social networks. (note: “Condividi” = “Share” in Italian). - iFrancis: The history of St. Francis of Assisi and St. Clare.
- The Place of the Simple: Tour the places of Italy in the footsteps of St. Francis and St. Clare.
- From The Francican Sources: Perfect Joy, The Canticle of Creatures, The Wolf of Gubbio
- The World of St. Francis: The Forgiveness of Assisi, The Tau, The Franciscan Family, The Cord – Knots – and Sandals
This is a very informative & inspirational app, and certainly worthwhile to have on your smart phone, and bet that Pope Francis would approve anyone making use of this app for prayer and inspiration. I also challenge my Franciscan Family to use this app to share our faith and spirituality during this Year of Consecrated Life to help inspire more people to these wonderful vocations started by St. Francis and St. Clare.
UPDATE 12/30/14: A reader informed me that this app has been pulled from the US iTunes Store. Have written to developers in Assisi, and will keep you updated when it returns. Say some prayers.
